ARTIST DISCUSSIONS WITH GLENN ADAMSON

Since October 2010 we have been running a series of 'In Conversation' talks between Glenn Adamson, Head of Postgraduate Studies and Deputy Head of Research at the V&A, and the artists who are exhibiting in our main gallery. These discussions provide a fascinating insight into the thought processes behind the work on show and influences upon the people that create them.

In this episode Adamson discusses the vastly differing yet equally fascinating creative approaches and working methods demonstrated in the mixed media shows of Martin Smith (in the main gallery) and Stephenie Bergman (in the Project Space), which both ran simultaneously from May to June 2011.

The debut show for our three newest gallery artists was the topic of discussion in this episode encompassing the thought and material processes behind, and relationship between, their innovative sculptural ceramic works.

1 March 2011: ROBERT MARSDEN 'CONTRADICTIONS', PHILIP SAYER 'MANHATTAN IN MOSCOW' AND TOM FOULSHAM

This discussion explored the relationship between Robert Marsden's minimalist metal 'Contradictions' and Philip Sayer's strikingly atmospheric 'Manhattan in Moscow' photographs. Tom Foulsham's gravity defying kinetic sculpture series was the first Project Space exhibition to be included. Unfortunately, the event was not recorded digitally, but a transcript was subsequently written by Rachael Crabtree and Alida Sayer.
